I had so much fun doing the Bridge Run last year that I decided to do it again this year! And let me just say – this year’s me kicked last year me’s butt!
I’ve wanted to run a marathon for a while. Like, since I first decided to register for a half marathon. Unfortunately, I’ve been too afraid.
I remember when I finished my first 10K I thought to myself, “that wasn’t too bad; I think I could handle a half marathon.” Then when I finished my first half marathon I thought, “NOPE, definitely still can’t do a marathon.” But the problem with things like this (insanely challenging things) is that you probably won’t ever feel ready. So, two weeks ago, in a moment of extreme bravery, I registered for my first marathon.
The race isn’t until December, so I have plenty of time to train, and it’s local so I may have talked a friend into running it with me. Both good things. I’m still very nervous, but I’m looking forward to the challenge.
…and to how badass I’m sure I’ll feel at the end. 🙂
Late last night I suddenly realized that I was not prepared to make lunch for myself. I hadn’t been grocery shopping so I didn’t have any lettuce (typically I make salads), and I didn’t want to have to spend a bunch of time cooking something up that would prevent me from getting to bed at a reasonable time.
Then I remembered this. Cacio e Pepe, literally “cheese and pepper.” It was a recipe I had seen a bunch of times in emails I receive from Bon Appetit, and I was pretty sure it would be easy. Granted, I’d never actually LOOKED at the recipe. But I figured I could guess and that would be close enough. And so that’s what I did!
The end result was surprisingly delicious for a bunch of random things that I threw together at the last minute, and it was satisfactorily easy to get me into bed on time. Perfect!
Today, one of my coworkers was instructed to delegate a task that he was assigned because he’s got a lot on his plate. So he sent me a message saying “hey, I’ve been told to delegate this task and I’m pretty sure there are zero people in the company who have relevant experience with both of the things involved in it who aren’t you. Can you do it?”
Of course I said yes. And then I felt really special, cause there are a lot of people in the company and being the only one who literally anything is a pretty big deal. Realistically it’s just a coincidence due to my current and former positions, but regardless, I felt awesome.

Five weeks ago I let one of my aerials friends talk me into trying a sample pole class. I expected that I would feel silly and embarrassed. I wasn’t excited about having to wear shorts. I was almost positive that I wouldn’t be willing to actually get into pole because once you get past the beginner levels it more or less requires that you expose most of your skin – otherwise you’ll slide right off.
I was right about one thing: I did feel a little bit uncomfortable in my shorts. But aside from that? I was wrong. So very, very wrong.
Yesterday was the first day of my last semester of grad school.
Whoooooooo! Almost done. 🙂
OH MY GOODNESS. I had forgotten how much better food tastes when you use real ingredients and make it yourself. Seriously, I really need to start finding time to cook for myself more often.
The reason I haven’t posted any recipes in so long is because I haven’t really been cooking much at all – mostly eating microwave food and sandwiches, or using the occasional salad recipe I find on a blog somewhere. But last night I was really craving kale for some reason so I made myself Garlic Parmesan Kale Pasta, which was delicious. And I’ve made myself two really good salads for lunch today and yesterday, so since I’ve had such a good food week I felt obligated to cook dinner. Even though I didn’t get home until almost ten pm. But I am SO glad I did. Because this dish is worth it.
I know, I know. It sounds a little weird. But trust me. IT’S GOOD. Like, really good.
